We had a wonderful time learning about the Hindu festival of Holi as part of our RE curriculum.

Wearing Colourful Clothing

Holi is the festival of colour. We all wore our brightest, most colourful clothes.

Decorating Elephants

We learnt about the importance of colour in the Holi celebrations. We enjoyed watching elephants that were ornately decorated, parading down the street in Jaipur. We used a decoupage technique to add colour to our mini elephants and then added glitter. We found out that each colour has its own symbolism in the Holi festival.

Making elephant masks

Ready for our elephant parade, we decorated masks in bright colours with gems and feathers. They looked amazing!

Tasting Indian food

It was brilliant to see everyone trying everything in our special taste test! We tried popadoms, mango chutney, raita, onion bhajia, an Indian dessert and mango juice. YUM!

Indian dancing!

We enjoyed watching some Bollywood dancing and then had a go at learning some of the moves! It was great fun!

Cooking chapatis in the forest

We cooked chapattis over the fire and enjoyed sampling them. They were very popular and there were lots of calls for seconds!

Elephant parade

We got our masks and decorated elephants ready and then went on an elephant parade, complete with Indian music, around the school!

Colour Run!

Finally, we finished the day with a colour run! It was such fun and we loved seeing the different colours all over everyone! During the Indian festival of Holi, colour runs take place on the streets but we decided it might be best if we kept it to the confines of the playing fields!
