Week 1- Mindful Relationships
Today we discussed friendships and the importance of supporting, of kindness and of being present and in the moment with our friendships. We also reflected on the importance of self-care and making sure that we look after our own selves in order that we can be a good friend to others. To illustrate this we had an opportunity to engage our best co-operation, support and kindness through The Floor is Lava. I have to say that Mrs Moss and I were blown away with the positivity and group idea sharing that these fabulous children displayed.
Finally we created friendship bracelets or hama bead pictures that were made with thought and care, in order to give to another. The joy of creating something for someone else and truly thinking of what they might like, was clear to see.
Week 2- Mindful Walking
We learnt about the importance of trying to be in the moment rather than rushing around and being distracted. We had a mindless walk where we had lovely chats but didn't notice anything around us. Then we went on a mindful walk to look and listen at everything around us. To help us to really focus, we searched for tiny treasures that fitted into a match box. We also painted rocks and spent time hiding them in the woods so that they could brighten up someone's day if there was a mindful walker who spotted them! Everyone agreed that mindful walking meant that we spotted unexpected things and that it made us feel more calm.
Finally we came back to a hot chocolate, muffin and a story all about anxiety. We made the link between mindful walking as a way that can help to reduce anxiety and thought of times when we had felt worried about something.
Week 3- Mindful Activities and Mindful Eating!
We had a wonderful time at The Ugly Duckling Pottery cafe in Newbury today. We enjoyed designing and painting a plate, whilst making sure that we concentrated on what we were doing.
When we got back, we ate a biscuit mindfully. We made sure that we used all of senses, one at a time, in order to really focus on the biscuit and notice things that we hadn't noticed before. We talked about how we often eat mindlessly without giving any thought to our food and hardly even noticing what we are eating! We discussed the need to practice focusing on only one thing at once and that when we do, our minds become more calm and we can often find that worries and negative feelings reduce.
The children were given a challenge of trying to eat a Mindful Mouthful every day.
Week 4- Mindful emotions and sleep.
Today we thought about sleep and its importance in helping us physically and emotionally. We talked about some ways in which we could help improve our sleep as we all discovered that at times we find it tricky to sleep.
We learnt how to do finger breathing which is great when you are lying in bed not able to sleep, but is also useful when your emotions are uncomfortable such as when you are nervous or cross.
We learnt how exercise helps us to sleep and we enjoyed some calming Yoga.
We made bath bombs because having a relaxing routine, such as having a bath, can help us to get to sleep.
Finally we created our own emotion thermometre which can help us to guage our emotions. This helps us to see how strong our feelings are and can help us tell others about our emotions without having to find the words to describe them, when we need support.
We had time for some fun games too which gave lots of opportunities for giggling, making connections with others and choosing to focus on just one thing: the game.
Sadly it is our final week of Wellbeing Warriors. The children have been given lots of ideas and tools that can help them to look after their own, and others' wellbeing. They will be receiving a Wellbeing Goodie Bag to remind them of all that they have learnt.
Mrs Moss and I have thoroughly enjoyed taking you all on our journey towards better wellbeing.
