Butser Ancient Farm

We had a super time at Butser Ancient Farm. We learnt so many new facts and it was great to see some real Celt roundhouses. We made Celtic jewellery, dressed as Celts, made a wattle and daube fence, handled artefacts, fed the goats and even had time for a peak at the Roman villa. Our unanimous favourite fact was how the Romans wiped their bottoms and how the slaves had to clear any blockages in the ditch that flowed away from the loos.

The King Who Banned The Dark

We have really enjoyed 'The King Who Banned The Dark,' which is our book for this half of term. It has created some wonderful discussions, superb pieces of writing and even given us the opportunity for drama in the form of freeze frames, hot seating, journalists and scene creating.

Tower building: who can make the tallest tower?

In D&T, the children were tasked to make the tallest tower they could in their groups. It had to be freestanding when the time ran out. Such tension, but also such resilience and creative, hands-on learning as the children tried out different types of frames and supports and watched them work, or not!

Learning where speech marks go....

The children had to select and cut out the speech from the text and put the pasta in the right place to show where the speech marks should go!

Happy Birthday, Tom!
